Thrift Haul: Fashion Edition

I buy a lot of clothes. I can spend $4 on a t-shirt at a thrift store and I can also spend $400 on a 3.1 Phillip Lim skirt.

Love this 3.1 Phillip Lim skirt but it no longer fits. For sale here.

I go through phases when I thrift; sometimes I'm only looking for long sleeve blouses or a perfect pair of white jeans, other times I'm only on the hunt for wool blankets or enamel kitchenware. If I thoroughly went through every section of every thrift store I went to, I'd be a corpse. I only have enough energy to devote my time to one hunt per store, so as not to burn out.

But today I did things a little differently. I gotta make the most of my time now that I don't have a car and am borrowing my boyfriend's dad's truck. I think I spent over two hours at Talize.

Anyway, here's a post dedicated to some clothing I picked up today and over the past few weeks. Ignore the hideously yellow light. I took these at night.

Today:

Nanette Lepore silk camisole, for sale here.

Aritzia Wilfred "Flaubert" silk and cashmere cardigan, for sale here.

Theory cotton jersey shirt dress, for sale here.

BCBG "Jacquier" tulle dress, for sale here.

BCBG "Palais" one-shoulder dress, for sale here.

Vintage SOO By Soo Kee Yung silk skirt. I bought this for myself but I didn't try it on in store and when I got home, I noticed a giant discoloration on the front, as if it'd been bleached.

Topshop Crocus "Skater" brocade dress. Also got this for myself.

It looks adorable on Anna Kendrick.

Other items purchased recently and unsold favorites from the past:

BCBG "Colette" colorblock jersey dress, for sale here.

Banana Republic silk ikat print skirt, for sale here.

Joie crepe colorblock blouse. Was for sale. I'll probably relist it in the fall.

Marc by Marc Jacobs silk leopard print dress, for sale here.

Aritzia Babaton "Galen" camisole. Kept this for myself.

Aritzia Wilfred "Minou" silk camisole (also got it in orange), for sale here.

Vintage Escada silk velvet skirt, for sale here. LOVE this skirt, it's so soft and luxurious feeling but it's way too many sizes too small for me, such a shame.

Vintage Oscar de la Renta silk scarf, for sale here. I got this scarf ages ago but I adore the print, it's like a zig zag stripe on acid.

Happy shopping!

Shelf Unit: Part 1

Unfortunately, even though I had a truck, I missed out on the Forest City Flea again, for the second year in a row, in addition to the Hyde Park Garage Sale, an annual event in my area where 150 homes in Hyde Park have a neighborhood wide garage sale. Didn't even know about this until yesterday when I saw a flyer in the mail. It took place on Coronation Dr. which is my mother's street and about a 5 minute drive away. Incredibly disappointed about that but I will have to mark it down for next year.

But the shelf that hubby and I designed - the shelf that hubby made - is structurally done!

There were a few budget concerns, some minor design disagreements, and lots of troubleshooting, but hubby managed to knock out the construction of the shelf in one day. Or shelves, rather, since the pieces are all modular. On the second day, he simply bolted the thing together in the room and mounted it to the wall.

The rest of it is up to me. I have to sand it, prime and paint it, and I'd like to upholster Blixa's self for her so she's not lying on raw pine (update: she is now lying on a throw). But even though it's still technically incomplete, I've already started filling it up.

My shoes have a shelf now!

I'll keep you posted on updates.

Thrift Haul: The Big Keep

As you all know, I'm sans vehicle at the moment but that hasn't stopped me from finding a way to thrift. Namely, I borrow cars from other people and I hit as many thrift stores as possible in one trip.

This post will be a big one because it spans a few days worth of thrifting, including some stuff I got before I left for my trip. I've been too busy to post anything over the last few weeks because hubby and I have been busy building a wall unit/cat shelf, which means the thrifted items have accumulated.

On to the stuff!

Vintage wood baker's table that's been refurbished and painted in turquoise and white. For sale on Kijiji here.

Framed botanical prints. Bought these for myself but they've just been sitting in my living room. For sale here.

I adore these carousel horse lamps.

Found this wood lampshade the other day and it goes well with the brown horse.

A woven tapestry of South American origin?

More recent things!

Mexican talavera. I got these tiles off Kijiji and now I just need to find a table to fit them.

Wool runner.

Metal filing two-drawer cabinets

Ceramic wall plaques by Erma Gillihand Duncan. I got these because I thought they were well-priced but apparently the artist is well known for her cameo plaques

Framed animal ink drawings.

Botanical wall plates by Arabia Finland, design by Esteri Tomula. I originally wanted to keep these for myself but they go for a pretty penny on Ebay.

Virgin wool throw blanket. Love the colors.

So does Blixa, methinks.

Wood mirror made in USA, Mexican mask w/ Otomi print, Pyrex lemonade pitcher, milk glass goblet

Vintage fringe lampshade that works perfectly in the reading/vinyl nook.

Cylinder lampshade. This corner is almost done but it still feels a little bare.

Red enamel pot, Opening Ceremony makeup bag, baroque picture frame w/ the desert botanical card that hubby and I mailed ourselves from California.

Vintage D. M. Ferry & Co's metal sign

Floral fabrics. Both of these swatches are tiny but I loved the prints regardless.

Mexican batea, handpainted wood bowls

Velvet dusty rose cushion w/ tassles

Mexican amate paintings. These are giant.

Four glass jars w/ metal lids.

And...that doesn't even include clothes, Kitchenaid pans, and a couple other items that I priced and put into my stall at Memory Lane.

Happy thrifting adventures everyone!
